The habitants of Valgrisenche have always dedicated themselves to the typical activity of the valley: “Drap” weaving.

Women but also men used to weave, these ones very often more suited to handle rudimental looms. The drap is created by the loom, it is a country-style particularly raw fabric deriving from sheep wool. It is particularly used as decorating fabric since he can be perfectly combined with country-style furniture.
Still today in Valgrisenche the “Drap” tradition is taken alive thanks to the precious work of the Cooperative “Les Tisserands de Valgrisenche”.
The Cooperative “Les Tisserands”, heir of a very ancient tradition, was founded in 1969 and its main activity is the weaving of Valgrisenche typical drap, apart from processing a wide range of raw wool and ecologic wool products with hand looms.

Always using the ancient processing techniques they passed from a plain colours weaving, mainly white, grey and beige, to a different colours weaving. Les Tisserands, finally, have diversified their production by including, among other products, more sophisticated cloaks and capes, poncho, bedspreads, bedside rugs, table towels and many more other Valgrisenche products.
